XV Muestra Internacional de Cine

Santo Domingo has the best collection of movie houses in all of the Caribbean and Central America. Few cities in the Americas have as many deluxe movie houses as Santo Domingo.

This coming 11-20 April, Cinema Fine Arts and Caribbean Cinemas at Galeria 360 mall present the 15th International Film Show, with outstanding new films from Germany, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Russia, Great Britain, Taiwan and Venezuela. The DR will be represented by the documentary ?Memorias de un aragones,? and several short films.

The jury includes Cuban cinematographer Rolando Diaz, best known for his film ?Los pajaros tirandole a la escopeta (1984), that won prizes in London, Havana, Harare and Benalmadena festivals, and his documentary El largo viaje de Rustico (nominated for the Goya awards in 1993), and for films that include Melodrama (1995), Si me comprendieras (1999) and Cercanias (2006). The other members of the jury are Dominican producer Desiree Reyes, screenwriter Luis Arambilet and Mexican screenwriter Colbert Garcia and film critic Ernesto Diez Martinez.

A Royal Affair (Denmark, 2012), historical romance, with the young Danish queen, who is married to an insane king, falling secretly in love with her physician – and together they start a revolution that changes a nation forever.
