The Ministry of Interior and Police (MIP) is monitoring businesses during the Easter holidays to ensure that minors do not purchase alcohol, public roads are not obstructed, firearms are not carried and the law on opening hours is not violated.
The task will be coordinated by the deputy ministers of Interior and Police, brigadier generals Ricardo Rosa Chupani and Henry Castellano.
The Ministry is also making checks to prevent forced closure of access to roads due to congestion around popular drink stops. Inspectors from the Ministry of Interior and Police Alcoholic Drinks Control department together with the Ministry of the Environment have been instructed to confiscate speakers from any establishments that play music above the legal noise limits.
The Road Assistance Program will be operating from 7am until 9pm on the Las Americas Highway up to Higuey, on the Duarte Highway up to Puerto Plata and on the 6 November Highway up to Azua.
The program was established to provide roadside assistance of any kind, and drivers simply have to call *788 or 911 to request assistance. The staff will be working until 9pm throughout the country during this Easter Week.
The Ministry of Public Works is advertising the 829 688-1000 24-hour drivers’ hotline that is part of the new Comprehensive Citizen Safety Program.
