Travelers who do not have their hotel reservations could have a hard time finding a hotel room especially on and after Thursday, 28 March. The Easter long weekend is the peak vacation holiday in the Dominican Republic. Spokespersons for tourism destinations say that hotels in the north and east are fully booked. Calls made to hotels in Barahona reveal that most hotels have already been reserved for the weekend too.
Ernesto Veloz, president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism Projects in the East said that in contrast with previous occasions when domestic travel had started to fill hotels as early as Monday on Easter Week, this year travelers have delayed and the 34,000 hotel rooms in the east are fully booked for the Thursday-Sunday weekend, as reported in Diario Libre.
Ana Garcia, speaking for the La Romana and Bayahibe Hotels Association said that 3,350 rooms in the area have been booked, with up to 25% reserved by Dominican travelers.
Maximo Iglesias of the Puerto Plata Tourism and Culture Cluster says that hotels in his area are also hoping for a 100% booking for the long weekend.
