The Ministry of Public Health has released details of its program for Easter Week 2013 that will be coordinated by the Emergency Operations Center and that will guarantee that medical care is available for the population, as well as an effective emergency response, which is likely to be needed more than usual during the holidays.
The Minister of Public Health, Freddy Hidalgo Nunez, announced that 121 ambulances would be available throughout the country in order to respond to emergencies and that via the National Emergency and Disaster Department there would be doctors, paramedics, radio operators, drivers and supervisors on call 24 hours a day.
He said that in order to contact the ambulances, people should call the emergency center 809 566-6648 and 809 200-0328, and they would be passed to their nearest center by a central operator.
He also said that the Public Health Ministry had two Emergencies and Disasters Centers in Barahona and Higuey, and that this year, the Ministry had 50 new fully-equipped ambulances purchased at a cost of RD$74,469,000.
The Deputy Ministry of Collective Heath will be issuing brochures and flyers with accident and ill health prevention measures.
