Dominican teachers resume salary struggle

The leadership of the Dominican Teachers Association (ADP), made up of public school teachers is reactivating, starting today, Monday 8 April, its plan of action for more benefits, with parent and community assemblies. The ADP will hold four regional assemblies with the aim of declaring 13 April “the National Day of Mobilizations and Reaffirmation of the ADP Rank and File.” This date commemorates the 41st anniversary of the founding of the union. The Plenary of National Leaders, which is trying to reach a pact that achieves an improvement in the teaching environment in the country, approved the program of events. The teachers agreed to declare the 23rd of each month “a national day of mobilization and awareness” in order to call the authorities’ attention to the plight of the teachers. There will be an event on Monday 15 April with pensioners and retirees, and a march on 1 May.
