Today, Monday 8 April the judges of the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ), Miriam German Brito, Hirohito Reyes, and Esther Agelan Casasnovas will hear, the appeals presented by the Prosecutors of the Court of Appeals for the reduction of the sentences to the people convicted for their involvement in Jose David Figueroa Agosto’s money laundering network, as reported in Diario Libre. The prosecutors are appealing the plea bargains reached by Sammy Dauhajre, Mary Pelaez, Madeline Bernard Pena, Eddy Brito, Ivanovich Smester Ginebra and Juan Jose Fernandez Ibarra. The First Chamber of the Court of Appeals had reduced their sentences to five years in prison. Mary Pelaez’s sentence was reduced to seven years and Madeline Bernard’s was confirmed as five years of house arrest.
