Businesses closed in shopping malls

The Department of Taxes (DGII) is closing down businesses that are behind in their tax payments. According to a press release, the raids began on Monday 8 April when DGII officers and Police visited premises in Blue Mall, Bella Vista Mall, Plaza Central, Plaza Andalucia, Plaza Central, Plaza Naco, Diamond Mall and other Santo Domingo shopping centers.

Reporters from Listin Diario checked and confirmed that El Corte Fiel and Restaurant Hong Kong in Plaza Central had stickers on the door saying “Closed” and the date “08-04-2013”. Also in Blue Mall “Hublot Geneve” was closed.

The tax authorities said that seven businesses were closed due to non-payment of taxes.
