Anthony Santos in hot water

Deputies from several political parties and an anti-Trujillo foundation have condemned the bachata singer Anthony Santos for saying “Trujillo lives,” while receiving his award during Tuesday 9 April’s Soberano ceremony.

Francis Anibal Gonzalez and Rafael Augusto Sanchez from the Testimony Foundation and Deputies Manuel Jimenez, Aridio Reyes Vasquez and Radhames Ramos Garcia, all criticized the Dominican singer and said that the Attorney General, Francisco Dominguez Brito should take legal action against Santos such as imprisonment or at least a reprimand as it was an offence against the men and women who died during the Trujillo era.

Aridio Reyes Vasquez said that the organizers of the awards should take back the prizes.

Anthony Santos subsequently apologized for what he said and explained that it was what he said at parties but it was followed by “so he can be killed again.”

Speaking by telephone to the broadcaster Z101, he apologized to everyone he had offended and said that he said it as he was very emotional.
