Fire in Santo Domingo

A spark from a soldering iron started a fire at a car accessory shop “Auto Stereo” and also damaged a neighboring business “Easy Dominicana” in Santo Domingo yesterday, Wednesday 10 April. Both are located on 27 Febrero Avenue at the corner of Ortega and Gasset Avenue.

According to Raul Antonio Gutierrez and Lion Pena, employees, and also Faustino Bautista whose SUV was destroyed by the blaze, the fire started when they were soldering brackets onto a car which used both LPG and gasoline. They said that they used extinguishers but had to call the fire brigade and 12 units arrived, although not quickly enough according to them.

However, the Head of the Fire Brigade, General Oscar Guillermo Garcia, said that the team reached the scene within minutes, and that despite what the employees said they would continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
