As part of the Presidency Social Assistance Plan, the Government has been handing out food parcels to 10,000 people living in communities in Santiago Rodriguez and Elias Pina provinces.
In Santiago Rodriguez the food parcels were distributed to families identified as most in need by the Director General of the Plan, Cesar Prieto, following a promise made by President Danilo Medina who visited the area on 7 April in a surprise visit to yuca (cassava) farmers and casabe (cassava bread) manufacturers in Moncion.
The food parcels were handed out house by house by the provincial governor of Santiago Rodriguez, Miguel Angel Nunez and community leaders in the communities of Cacique, Los Pinos, Cepillo, Las Caobas, Barrio Nuevo, Moncion, Santiago Rodriguez, Rodeo Abajo, El Mamoncito, Viladero, Juan Maduro, Los Juncos and Asiento Frio.
