Minister of Foreign Relations Carlos Morales Troncoso has announced that the Dominican Republic has paid off its debt to the United Nations. The DR owed RD$35.4 million, of which RD$26.6 million corresponded to the January-March quarter, and RD$8.7 million is part of the UN FAO membership. The DR also owed the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) in Paris another RD$4,667,000 for a total of RD$40,090,163 that was cleared.
Because of the arrears, the DR was not allowed to vote in the General Assembly on the international firearms treaty last month.
