Latin American PGA in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Golf Federation announces the celebration of the Fourth Dominican Open, part of the PGA Latin American Tour, for the second time. The tournament will take place at the Cana Bay course at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana. The president of the PGA Tour Latin America, Jack Warfield was in Santo Domingo to announce that the event will be played from 26 May to 1 June 2013 at the Jack Nicklaus-designed course. More than 140 professional golfers from nine countries will play four rounds of golf at the 18-hole course. A Pro-Am tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, 28 May. Prize money is US$150,000. This is the ninth round of the PGA Tour Latin America.

Pros Willy Pumarol and Julio Santos will be playing for the Dominican Republic.

The PGA Latin America is seen by its promoters as an opportunity to help in the further development of elite players across the region. The timing for the Dominican Open is right, especially now that golf will be again included in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016.

Players coming for the tournament are mostly from Latin America, but players from the US to Australia have registered. A total of 24 countries are represented this year, up from 19 last year as new members have joined from Australia, Canada, Ireland, South Korea, Sweden, Wales and Taiwan.
