Garbage collection now at night

Residents of the Poligono Central area of Santo Domingo will have noticed that garbage collections are now taking place in the evening. A new schedule at the Duquesa landfill site is making it possible for garbage trucks to circulate late at night. This weekend trucks are working until midnight but this will be extended to 2am by Monday, 22 April. Oscar Garcia Arias, speaking for the National District City Government (ADN) said that 10 trucks are assigned to the area and of these seven will continue working until 2am in the area marked by the John F. Kennedy, Gustavo Mejia Ricart, Roberto Pastoriza, Abraham Lincoln, Lope de Vega, Tiradentes, Winston Churchill and 27 de Febrero avenues. He said initial runs have proven that the late hour work is more efficient and quick because of the lack of traffic jams. He said that the city government plans to work around the clock. Lessons learned from night time collection in this first sector will then be applied to other areas in the National District as the city moves towards 24 hour garbage collection.
