Digital signature coming in new ID card

When the Central Electoral Board (JCE) issues a new identity and electoral card (cedula) it will include a digital signature. The director of the Presidential Office of Information Technology and Communication (OPTIC), Armando Garcia says that citizens may validate and authenticate any electronic document in the future. Apart from online and offline authentication, the electronic card will give users the option of signing electronic documents with a digital signature.

Garcia said that JCE president Roberto Rosario approved the inclusion in a meeting on 12 March, as reported in Diario Libre.

The JCE has yet to make the announcement and has not yet given a date for the issue of the new card.
