Santo Domingo Book Fair dedicated to Ecuador

All attention is focused on the opening of the annual Santo Domingo International Book Fair at the National Theater at 6pm, Monday 22 April. The FIL-2013 will last until 5 May. President Rafael Correa from Ecuador will be at the inaugural ceremony because this year’s Ecuador is guest country. The 2013 fair is dedicated to Dominican writer Hilma Contreras. President Correa will present his own book, “De Banana Republica a la No Republica” (From Banana Republic to No Republic) and will give a lecture at the Faculty of Economy of the state university, UASD. The state university UASD will be awarding President Correa an honorary doctorate on Monday morning, 22 April for his professional merits and backing of global democratic initiatives.

The 100 intellectuals and artists from Ecuador who will be attending the event include Cristobal Zapata, Francisco Herrera Arauz, Carlos Gustavo Rodriguez Jaramillo, Daniel Leonard Wild Stapel, Paola Sanchez Perugachi, Andrea Moreno Wray, Patricio Montaleza and Yonny Marcil Nazareno.

Ecuador has a large exhibition stand located in a prominent area within the fair.

Ecuadorian Ambassador Carlos Lopez Damm says that the Minister of Defense Maria Fernanda Espinosa will also be presenting her book “Geografias torturadas.”

In the arts, Karla Kanora, the first woman in Ecuador to win a gold and platinum record for sales of her album “Karla Kanora por amor” and Ecuadorian soprano Beatriz Gil will perform at the National Theater on the opening evening.
