The Dominican Republic’s top-seeded women’s team member, Wu Xue has won the women’s title in the Latin American Table Tennis Championship held 19-21 April at the Parque del Este table tennis pavilion in Santo Domingo East. She defeated Mexico’s Yadira Silva, the No. 4 seed, 10-12, 11-6, 7-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-6).
The event is a qualifier for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Xue was unbeaten in the tournament. Wu Xue regained the crown she had secured two years ago in Rio de Janeiro.
In the finals, the DR’s top men’s table tennis player, Lin Ju (No. 3 seed) lost to Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro (No. 4 seed) 11-7, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 5-11, 12-10.
