Half of Dominicans are hopeful the economy will improve by the end of the Medina administration in 2016. 49% have the perception that the economy is not doing well, and that includes 48% of those who said they have ties to the ruling PLD political party. But 53% of respondents with ties to the PLD said that the country was going in the right direction under the new administration that began in August 2012. 52% of all citizens interviewed are optimistic that the economy will have improved by the end of the Medina administration.
The minimum cost of living in the Dominican Republic for a family of five is RD$12,000, according to the most recent Gallup-Hoy poll carried out 11-15 April 2013. 84% of Dominicans say that they do not have enough earnings to save.
