Goodbye to pennies?

The Senate Permanent Hacienda Commission has invited representatives of the Central Bank for the Wednesday, 24 April Senate session in order to analyze a resolution that calls for the elimination of the one cent piece from the National Monetary System. The commission, which is chaired by Senator Tommy Galan, will present the proposal to the Monetary Board. According to a report in El Nuevo Diario, the Permanent Hacienda Commission will hear the resolution, which was drafted by Senator Manuel de Jesus Guichardo Vargas, in the Pedro Francisco Bono Room. The Hacienda Commission also includes Amilcar Romero, Carlos A. Castillo, Luis Rene Canaan, Felix Vazquez, Dionis Sanchez, Julio Cesar Valentin, Francis Vargas and Charles Mariotti.
