The police have announced the arrest of three people for the murder of brothers Estanislao and Leonardo Batista Delgado in the Santo Domingo neighborhood of Bella Vista on Tuesday, 16 April.
Police spokesman General Maximo Baez Aybar gave their names as Danilo Antonio Paulino Marte (El Trepador), 21, Vladimir Diaz Lopez, 33 and Angelica Hernandez Tavarez, 24.
Baez Aybar said that they are members of a dangerous gang that targeted people who withdrew or deposited money in banks in order to attack them. The Batista Delgado brothers had withdrawn RD$228,000 from a bank.
Apparently the gang would rent vehicles from a number of car hire companies to use in the attacks and they have committed several armed robberies in different parts of Santo Domingo, mainly in commercial areas.
The police spokesman said that they had recovered three pistols that were being checked to establish whether they had been used in the murders of the Batista Delgado brothers.
