President Medina in Haiti today

President Danilo Medina arrived in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince at 7am today, Friday 26 April to take part in the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) Fifth Summit of Heads of State and Government. He flew in by helicopter with Minister of Hacienda Simon Lizardo Mezquita.

This is President Medina’s first official visit to Haiti. He is scheduled to return in the late afternoon.

The Presidency reported that the presidential mission also included Administrative Presidency Minister Jose Ramon Peralta, Presidency Minister Gustavo Montalvo, Minister of Environment Bautista Rojas, the head of the Presidency military corps, Major General Adams Caceres and his personal assistant Carlos Pared Perez, senator Felix Nova and businessman Manuel Estrella. Foreign Relations Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso, who arrived earlier for the ministerial preparatory meeting, and Dominican ambassador in Haiti Ruben Silie, are also in the delegation.

President Sebastian Pinera of Chile will be attending the event as an observer.

During his stay in Haiti, Medina will also have a private meeting with Haitian President Michel Martelly.

The summit is focused on the theme of ‘The Renewal of the Fundamental Vision of the ACS: Working for a United and Strong Caribbean.’ The event seeks to define the future of the association, with a focus on environment, sustainable tourism and the economy.

Prior to the event, the Sixth Meeting of the Extraordinary Ministerial Council of the Association of Caribbean States was also held at the Hotel Karibe in Petion-Ville, Port-au-Prince.
