Leading Dominican salami manufacturers want to increase their sales in Haiti. A big campaign to promote Dominican-made salami in Haiti was announced, coinciding with President Danilo Medina’s visit to Haiti. Medina was in Haiti on Friday, 26 April to attend the Association of Caribbean States Fifth Summit of Heads of State and of Governments. Salami manufacturers were cleared for selling their products in the Dominican Republic after the Consumer Protection Agency, ProConsumidor confirmed improvements in several brands. An early analysis had shown below required levels of protein, and 15% of samples showed fecal contamination, creating a national scandal and a major drop in salami sales in the Dominican Republic. Meat packing company Induveca leads sales of meat products in Haiti.
