New bank services that allow customers who have lost their access to credit because of past debt can now participate in recovery programs offered by the BHD and Banco Leon, according to a report in Diario Libre. BHD has announced that as of 23 April it is offering Re-Comienzo, or Re-Start, a program that awards customers a credit card with a limit, in pesos or US$, with a deposit as guarantee. When the client restores their credit history, the deposit is removed. Banco Leon offers a similar program. Local banks also offer debit cards that can be used for many operations similar to credit cards. The customer makes a deposit and can draw on the card for operations in the DR and abroad.
