Although the Public Sector Salary Regulation Bill is still under observation by the Executive Branch, after it was vetoed by former President Leonel Fernandez shortly before the end of his term, several ministers have raised their own salaries according to the terms set out in the legislative proposal. The Ministry of Public Administration has approved these increases. Before the legislative proposal that is awaiting the President’s signature, a minister’s monthly salary was set at RD$75,000 and a deputy minister’s was RD$60,000. The pending legislation sets the salary levels at RD$200,000, RD$250,000 and RD$300,000. It should be noted that some of the ministers have not raised their salaries, but according to the Transparency website, http://www.portaldelciudadano.gov.do, ministers including Temistocles Montas, Gonzalo Castillo, Simon Lizardo, Carlos Morales Troncoso and Josefina Pimentel have all increased their salaries to RD$300,000 a month. Gustavo Montalvo, Francisco Javier Garcia and Jaime David Fernandez are on RD$250,000 a month.
