All charges dropped against communicator’s son

A court has declared the legal action against the son of TV host Guillermo Gomez, accused of electronic fraud, to be null and void after the victims are no longer claiming damages.

They said that there were no outstanding writs against Jose Angel Gomez Canaan (Jochy) as they had all been dropped, including the last one by Temistocles Montas.

Jochy was arrested last July when the Public Prosecutor, the Police and the National Investigation Department presented evidence against him and accused him of electronic espionage, allegedly with an international network that extended to India and Vietnam

National District Prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso and Police Chief Jose Armando Polanco Gomez had accused him and his accomplices of hacking 44 e-mail accounts belonging to businesspeople and politicians, including the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Temistocles Montas, the president of Delta Commercial, Carlos Manuel Bonetti, Manuel A. Grullon Hernandez, Ignacio Ditren, Eduardo Najri, Avelino Abreu, Gina Lopez, Manuel Pellerano, Jacinto Peynado, George A. Nader and Luis Alvarez Renta.

Raids were carried out and computers, servers, cell phones, USB memories were confiscated, which apparently confirmed the hacking.

According to Listin Diario, Judge Kenya Romero of the Sixth Court of Instruction for the National District argued that the lack of standing of the plaintiff, the PLD, and the withdrawal of the other 23 plaintiffs who withdrew their complaints had practically closed down the case. The judge took her decision after a request by the defense lawyers Carlos Olivares and Carlos Balcacer who said that this was a decision based on the law and on the regulations of the Penal Process Code. News commentators on the Carmen Imbert radio talk show this morning, Tuesday 7 May, focused on the possible existence of private videos that could be compromising for the affected parties, saying that this may have led them to decide against pursuing court action despite the proven allegations of hacking email accounts.
