Flaws in government audits in 2012

The Foundation for Institutionalism and Justice, FINJUS, is asking Congress and the Chamber of Accounts to make use of the prerogatives provided by the Constitution to correct persistent flaws in government audits. A financial analyst, Jose Rijo, is saying that the Chamber of Accounts’ audit of the state budget execution during 2012 revealed expenditures worth over RD$200 billion that were not backed by sufficient and correct documentation that kept auditors from issuing opinions. Rijo said that according to a report from the Chamber of Accounts filed on 25 April in Congress, the auditors could not prove the veracity of RD$101 billion in real capital investment, or another RD$87 billion related to payments to employees because there were no supporting documents. FINJUS has therefore asked Congress to investigate.
