Coal-fired generators up for tender

The Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE) launched an international tender today, Monday 13 May to select the company that will carry out the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of two coal-fired thermo-electrical units that will produce 300 MW each. The CDEEE told Diario Libre that the objective is to expand low cost energy supply, continue to diversify the energy matrix for an improvement in the electricity service for all Dominicans.

The electricity agency recalled that recent studies of the demand carried out by experts in the field found that the country urgently requires the installation of at least 600 MW in the National Interconnected Electricity System in order to guarantee a basic electricity service supply. CDEEE executive vice-president Ruben Jimenez Bichara said that this tender process would be transparent and competitive, with active participation from all sectors of society. He said the goal was to lower generation costs to benefit all power consumers.

The announcement published in today’s newspapers as well as on the websites of international agencies, invites any interested national and international companies to present their credentials for the pre-qualification, by registering on the website of the tender that the CDEEE has prepared especially for this at http://licitaciones.cdeee.gob.do
