Dr. Victor Terreno, executive director of the National HIV and Aids Council (Conavihsida) has announced that 4,609 people in the Santiago area are living with HIV, which has led his organization to declare the Central Cibao area as a high priority for prevention work. In a press release he said that of this total, 2,684 people are receiving free anti-retroviral medication.
He pointed out the need to help the most vulnerable groups such as young people, workers in the sex industry and homosexual men.
