27th Visual Art Biennial

The Ministry of Culture and the Museum of Modern Art are inviting artists to participate in the Museum of Modern Art’s 27th Visual Art Biennial. The event will be hosted at the MAM starting 16 August 2013.

The Biennial is open to Dominican artists and foreigners who have resided in the country for at least five years. The announcement was made yesterday, Tuesday 14 May by Maria Elena Ditren, director of the MAM, Carlos Acero, president of the Dominican Association of Art Critics, and Tati Olmos representing the Ministry of Tourism, and others.

Participants need to be either a graduate of an art school recognized by the Dominican government or member of the Colegio Dominicano de Artistas Plasticos, having been selected in an arts contest, and able to demonstrate participation in individual or collective art shows. The categories are painting, sculpture, drawing, graphic arts, photography, video, ceramics, installations, performances, and free format. Only works that have not been exhibited before or participated in contests in the country or abroad are eligible. The overall winner will receive a RD$500,000 cash prize. There are eight prizes in the different categories of RD$250,000 cash award. The deadline for submissions is 5 July 2013.
