Traveling inland to the north coast is getting easier. The Medina administration has just announced that RD$700 million is being made available to improve the San Francisco de Macoris-Rio San Juan highway. This is in addition to another RD$600 million for other road works in the province. Yesterday, Monday 20 May, engineer Miguel Pimentel Kareh of the Presidential Office of Public Works (OISOE) announced that works would begin on the highway. The aim is to stimulate the regional economy and tourism. Pimentel announced that the government would be investing a total of RD$5.8 billion in infrastructure works in Duarte Province. San Francisco de Macoris is the capital of the province. He made the announcement after a meeting at the provincial governor’s office. The works that have already begun include the construction of streets, sidewalks and roads in the province, in the communities of Las Taranas, Cenovi, Villa Rivas and Yaiba.
