27th Visual Art Biennial at Museum of Modern Art

The 27th Visual Art Biennial will take place in Santo Domingo from 16 August to 17 November 2013. The Ministry of Culture and the Museum of Modern Art are inviting artists to participate in the leading art event. The Biennial is open to Dominican artists and foreigners who have lived in the country for at least five years. The announcement was made on Monday, 21 May by Maria Elena Ditren, director of the MAM, Carlos Acero, president of the Dominican Association of Art Critics, and Tati Olmos representing the Ministry of Tourism, among others.

Participants need to be either graduates of an art school recognized by the Dominican government or members of the Colegio Dominicano de Artistas Plasticos, must have been selected in an arts contest, and be able to demonstrate participation in individual or collective art shows. The categories are painting, sculpture, drawing, graphic arts, photography, video, ceramics, installations, performances and free format. Only works that have not been exhibited before or participated in contests in the country or abroad are eligible for the contest. The overall winner will receive a RD$500,000 cash prize. There will be eight winners of the different categories who will receive a RD$250,000 cash award. The deadline for the call is 5 July 2013.
