Remand in jail for 20-year old accused of drunk driving

A court in the National District, headed by Judge Ramon Horacio Gonzales Perez, Yuli Tamariz and Luis Omar Jimenez, has remanded Robert Bocio Nova in jail for six months. The 20-year old is accused of killing three siblings by running them over with a SUV when he was alledgedly sdriving drunk on Santo Domingo’s Jimenez Moya Avenue during the celebrations following the World Baseball Championship in March.

Originally he was out on RD$2 million bail, but will now have to be remanded in prison.

The defendant’s lawyer, Agustina Heredia, asked the court to ratify the bail conditions for her client saying that it was a traffic accident and he did not intend to kill these people.

Relatives of the victims said that they were happy with the decision, and although it would not bring their loved ones back to life, they wanted justice and the maximum penalty available.
