Don’t put away the umbrellas

The Emergency Operations Center (COE) is maintaining its alerts for nine provinces, and several communities have been cut off due to flooded rivers and streams. The COE has issued a yellow alert for Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris) province – especially the Lower Yuna Basin area – and green alerts for Monte Plata, Monsignor Nouel (Bonao), Greater Santo Domingo, Hato Mayor, Maria Trinidad Sanchez (Nagua), San Juan de la Maguana, La Vega and Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui). Citizens are advised to watch out for possible flooding from rivers and creeks as well as landslides from waterlogged mountainsides. The COE issued the alerts because recent rains have already caused swollen waterways and because the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) is forecasting more rains due to a low-pressure trough over the country. Rains are forecast for the north, northeast, northwest, southeast, the central mountains and the border regions.
