President Danilo Medina will travel to the Haitian border town of Juana Mendez (Ouanaminthe), just across the river from the Dominican city of Dajabon, this Wednesday, 5 June. He will join Haitian authorities for World Environmental Day celebrations. Medina will fly from San Juan de la Maguana together with Minister of Environment Bautista Rojas Gomez and other cabinet ministers. According to reports, the President will inaugurate a reforestation program based on methodology already in use in the Dominican Republic. According to the Hoy newspaper, this is Medina’s response to a request from his counterpart in Haiti, President Michel Martelly, who asked for his help in reforesting some of the devastated lands in Haiti.
