Military personnel added to Police patrols

The National Police reported yesterday, Sunday 2 June that military personnel would be added to preventive patrols immediately, beginning this week. “Citizens will notice the preventive patrolling by the police and military even more,” said Police spokesman General Maximo Baez Aybar. In response to the increase in crime during the last few weeks, in which public figures or their family members were victimized, last Friday, 31 May President Danilo Medina ordered the Armed Forces and the National Police “to use all the military personnel needed to fight this crime.”

The police spokesman told Diario Libre that public safety would be strengthened in “areas where statistics show there is the greatest incidence of crime, and they will increase their fleet of vehicles with the addition of the military.” Baez Aybar said that together with the military contribution from the Armed Forces, “they have found 900 police agents who have been assigned outside the institution.”
