First Lady launches teenage maternity program

The First Lady’s Office has launched a new program called “For a Positive Start” with the aim of teaching pregnant women how to look after themselves during pregnancy. First Lady Candida Montilla de Medina led the inaugural event, which took place at the Our Lady of Altagracia Maternity Hospital. Public Health Minister Freddy Hidalgo and hospital director Victor Calderon were also present.

Candy Montilla said that she was concerned about the high level of teenage pregnancies and stressed the importance of education programs for health and the protection of the family. During the launch, bags with educational tools, vitamins, folic acid and protein supplements were handed out.
