The National Police reports the discovery of the body of a 67-year-old Italian resident, Francesco Ceron, in the back seat of a vehicle in Gaspar Hernandez.
Ceron lived in La Mulata in Sosua and initial findings suggest that he was beaten and strangled. It is believed that the attack took place elsewhere as the body showed signs of having been dragged and traces of sand and small rocks were embedded in the body.
The police have detained Juan Velasquez, 30, a resident of Sabana de la Mar, who was behaving suspiciously, trying to buy new clothes in Gaspar Hernandez, as his were covered with blood. Velasquez has denied any responsibility, saying he was in the area to visit a friend, although he did not know where his friend lived.
The body has been taken to the National Forensic Science Institute (INACIF) in Santiago for autopsy.
