The Dominican Republic defeated Mexico 27-26 in the Women’s Pan American Senior Handball Championship to win a slot in the World Handball Championship. As host country, one of the slots had already been set aside for the Dominican Republic. The Pan American event is being held in Santo Domingo through 8 June 2013. The top four winning teams in the Pan America tournament gain slots in the next World Championship to be held Serbia in December this year. The top two teams in each group of five will already be qualified for the World Championship, regardless of what subsequently happens in the semi-finals and the medal games.
The Dominican Republic is in Group A with Brazil, Mexico, USA and Costa Rica. Group B: Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, Canada and Paraguay.
