The Chamber of Deputies has passed a new Check Bill, after declaring the legislation to be urgent. In yesterday’s session, Tuesday 11 June, the deputies revoked Law 2859 from 30 April 1951 and approved a new bill that will govern the use of checks as instruments of payment. Deputies Marino Collante and Demostenes Martinez told Hoy newspaper that over the last 60 years the Dominican Republic has undergone huge economic growth and therefore needed a more adequate instrument for financial transactions. According to the leader of the Chamber of Deputies, Abel Martinez, this approval of the new legislation “renews the power of the check as an instrument of payment.”
