Dominican audiovisual creator Brianda Carrera has been invited to attend the finals of the Cannes Lions International Creativity Festival 2013, receiving a weeklong trip to Cannes and a cash award of US$8,000. She competed with 20,000 others in creating a video advertisement for one of nine sponsor companies, Coca-Cola, Chevrolet, AT&T, Telefonica, Reebok, Unilever, Diner’s Club International, Campbells and Durex. The contest organizers included her in a shortlist of 120 that was sent to Reebok, the company she chose for the commercial, for the final decision. She told El Dia she was in shock, never believing she might win. She worked together with Dario Arnau who was the director and editor. She was responsible for the script, production and acting. The shortlisted video tells her life story. She is black and said when she first studied classical dance she was told her dark skin would be an obstacle, but she has been able to travel abroad and perform internationally regardless. She says the short film is a call for people to live out their passion. She is a graduate of the PUCMM audiovisual school.
Close to 36,000 entries were received from 92 countries across 16 categories.
The contest is regarded as the largest and most prestigious global international annual awards for creative advertising and communications.? The categories are: Branded Content & Entertainment, Creative Effectiveness, Cyber, Design, Direct, Film, Film Craft, Media, Mobile, Outdoor, PR, Press, Promo & Activation, Radio, Titanium and Integrated and the new Innovation Lions categories.
The winners will be announced at the finals, being held 16 – 22 June 2013 in Cannes, France.
