Roberto Rosario Marquez, presiding judge of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) has said that they will start to issue new identity and voting cards (cedulas) to around seven million people, starting at the end of this year.
He said that they would be available in all cedula centers throughout the country, together with 100 additional centers, which are being especially set up for the process.
He also said that the budget for 2014 would include an allocation for reopening some of the overseas offices, so that Dominicans living overseas could also receive a new cedula.
