Liquidator justifies sale of shares

The head of the Administrative Liquidation Commission for the assets of collapsed bank BanInter says that she believes that the commission properly valued the shares of Channel 7, Rahintel, and Channel 21 on UHF. Many questions have been raised about the value of the package that sold 47.5% of the state’s shares in the two channels for US$6.6 million. As a result of the public outcry, the Senate has appointed a special commission to look into the sale. Zunilda Paniagua, a member of the liquidating commission and Danilo Guzman and Manuel Pina took part in a meeting with the senators. The Senate commission will listen to Carlos Amarante Baret when he testifies tomorrow, Thursday 20 June.

Espaillat Senator Jose Rafael Vargas, a former president of the Dominican Telecommunications Institute, said that the 12,000 square meters on which the station is located alone are worth more than the US$8 million. He said the equipment and the station would be worth another US$10 million. He said that in the books, a low-frequency channel is worth US$40-50 million, while a high-frequency channel costs around 8-12 million dollars.
