President Medina attends start of Port Caucedo Logistics Center

President Danilo Medina attended the start of construction of the Caucedo Logistics Center on Saturday, 22 June. The center will be built on an area of 320,000 square meters at a cost of more than US$100 million and will employ more than 1,000 people. The center, which will be located between the Multimodal Caucedo Port and the Las Americas International Airport is aimed at improving local cargo, unloading and storage services for local and international companies. It will operate as a free zone.

Chairman of the board of directors of Caucedo Investment Corporation, Samuel Conde, and the chairman of the board of DP World Caucedo, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, attended the event. Minister of Industry and Commerce Jose del Castillo, representing the government, spoke of the competitive advantages the new service will provide. Jean Alain Rodriguez of the DR Center for Export and Investment (CEI-RD) was also present.

The plan is for the expansion of the Panama Canal to benefit the service with an increase in cargo operations. Caucedo is designed to handle post-Panamax ships, the ships that were too big to go through the Panama Canal today. The port is equipped to handle increased traffic from South America and from the Far East.
