Dominican rider Isabel Sanchez won the final round of the FEI World Jumping Challenge Final 2013 on Monday, 24 June 2013 at the Caracas Country Club in Venezuela. She was one of the final four riders out of 21 from the first day. The runners-up were Phillipe Burckel (Mauritius), Janine Khoo (Singapore) and Siengsaw Lertratanachai (Thailand). The competitors were riding with a rotation of horses. In the first round, each rider competed with his/her own horse and then rode three other horses belonging to the other contestants for the next three rounds. In the end, the Dominican rider, Isabel Sanchez, was the only one with perfect clear round on all four horses to win the final. Sanchez rode her horse Carnida Z, and had a slow start, when she first placed in seventh place. Dominican Equestrian Federation president Jose Manuel Ramos Baez said this was the first time the Dominican Republic has a world champion in horse riding. “Isabel’s ride was simply spectacular, she made very few mistakes and was the winner,” he said. To her credit, he pointed out that Sanchez was competing against riders from countries with a stronger equestrian tradition than ours, and recalled that another Dominican, Daniela Cordero was the runner-up in the event held in Guatemala last year.
