The Court of Permanent Attention of the Judicial Department of Santiago ordered a one-year sentence of preventive custody for Laura Michel Fernandez, 23, who is accused of masterminding the assassination of her husband David Gomez Grullon last week. Judge Juan Antonio Reyes said that the young woman is a lead suspect in the death of her husband.
According to the Listin Diario, District Attorney Luisa Liranzo and her deputy, Aura Luz Garcia, asked for preventive custody after Laura Michel confessed that the person who did the actual killing was Yorbi Manauris Garcia Martinez, 25, her lover. The young man is in custody in Santiago where he was transferred on Saturday after turning himself in at the Antena Latina television station. He is awaiting a hearing on coercive issues. Police sources say that during an interrogation in which the woman was accompanied by her lawyer, she admitted planning the killing together with Garcia Martinez.
