President Danilo Medina removed Vicente Bengoa Albizu as the administrator of the Reserve Bank of the Dominican Republic (BanReservas) and appointed as his replacement a former vice-president of Banco Popular Dominicano, Enrique Ramirez Paniagua. Ramirez Paniagua was the Deputy Minister for Administration and Finance for the Presidency, and he is not known as a political activist but more of a close associate of President Medina.
Bengoa has been appointed the honorary financial advisor to the President. At the time of the cancellation, Bengoa was in Spain promoting a new Banco de Reservas product whereby Dominicans in Spain could finance homes in the Dominican Republic by opening the Reserva tu Hogar savings account.
