President Danilo Medina visited Constanza in the province of La Vega yesterday, Sunday 7 July, continuing his string of unannounced visits. In the town, the President announced the expansion, modernization and equipping of the Dr. Pedro A. Cespedes Public Hospital. After a tour of the medical center, the President said that he would speak to Minister of Public Health Freddy Hidalgo about sending more doctors to this hospital.

Later on, Medina met with the leaders of the Horti Pack farm cluster, a pioneer in the production and packing of farm produce made up of 763 farmers in the area, of whom 726 are women. He promised these farmers official financing for RD$35 million.

The farmers will use these funds for reducing their debts to several banking institutions, as well as expanding, modernizing and equipping the cluster’s farms and diversifying their international markets.

The President said the official assistance to the cluster was conditional on integrating some 700 small farmers in the area.
