Chief of the National Police Major General Manuel Castro Castillo will hold a meeting with the Minister of the Armed Forces Admiral Sigfrido Pared Perez today, Monday 8 July to assess the need for increasing police operations as well as the intelligence work geared at arresting “criminals who are carrying firearms.”
“In the next few days we will be discussing whether the National Public Safety Plan will be directed towards other sectors. In August a large group of recruits will be posted to extend this plan,” he said.
He said that he had no evidence that the latest attacks on military personnel and police were part of a plan to have him removed from his post. He also warned that he would not permit abuses and excesses by the police against decent citizens, adding that he would continue to dismiss police agents who engage in improper conduct.
