Bartolo Colon says this is his best year

The man who should have retired a long time ago, Oakland Athletics pitcher Bartolo Colon says he is having his best year. In a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday, Monday 8 July, 40-year old Colon cruised through seven innings for his 12th win, for a 2-1 victory. Overall, he just allowed seven hits, walked one, and struck out five for a total of 108 pitches. The Dominican miraculous pitcher’s ERA is down to 2.69.

“I’ve never had a year like this,” Colon said, in an MLB.com report. “I believe this year is my best year. It was always in my thoughts, but I never imagined having the kind of numbers that I do right now before the All-Star break.”

The not-so-secret secret, he says, is “working hard.”

Others attribute his success to the stem-cell surgery he underwent in the Dominican Republic in 2010. Sometimes described today as the bionic man, in 2009, Colon had suffered from an ailing elbow and a torn rotator cuff in his right arm. His outstanding performance in 2013 is evidence of the success of the operation.
