Investigating the missing safes in Sosua

The Public Prosecution office in Puerto Plata has made progress in the investigation of the apparent disappearance of two safes containing RD$60 million and precious stones and jewelry belonging to several Germans and which they claim was stolen by Police officers who raided their home in La Mulata III in Sosua.

Yesterday, Monday 8 July, the spokeswoman for the office, Mariel Vasquez, said that the investigations by the Public Prosecutor, Alba Nunez Pichardo were at an advanced stage and she would shortly be able to reveal the results.

A few days ago, lawyer Jose Carlos Gonzalez, legal representative of Peter and Daniel Brunk, who were charged and remanded in jail for 12 months, complained that the Police officers had taken the money, expensive watches, chains and rings.

Peter and Daniel (father and son) were arrested during a shootout when authorities tried to enter their home on 17 October last year. Their friend Peter Demetrick was killed and three police agents were injured during the raid, which took place in response to allegations that they were running a dangerous religious sect from the house with connections to several European countries.
