More stickers for your vehicle

Starting today, 15 July, at 8am, six stations for residents in the Greater Santo Domingo have been installed by the Department of Taxes (DGII) for the issuing of the stickers following vehicular inspections. Another six are operating in the regional DGII offices in Azua, La Romana, San Francisco de Macoris, Valverde, Santiago and Puerto Plata. The sticker requirement had been abandoned and is now reinstated. The stickers are required for vehicular circulation from 2013-2014.

The stations for the National District and the province of Santo Domingo are located in the Teo Cruz Boxing Coliseum, in the Quisqueya Ball Park, and at the DGII offices in the provinces of the country, they will be open from 9 to 5pm.

This year the dispatch of the “Revista” will be done without the exhaustive inspection that had been suggested by Luis Estrella, general director of the Ministry of Public Works’s Ground Transportation Department. This inspection was halted in 2010 after it was deemed a futile operation. Minister of Public Works and Communications Gonzalo Castillo said that next year the necessary rigorous technical inspection required by the Law on Transit 241-67 would be implemented.

The requirements to obtain the sticker according to the law are the following: payment of the charge, presentation of the registration and insurance up to date. The vehicle should be in good condition: motor, body, and windows. The review mirrors and lights should work properly, and the tires should be the correct type for the vehicle and in good shape. Besides this the exhaust system or muffler should be in good condition and the vehicle should have a spare tire, and the lug wrench, jack, first-aid kit, security triangle, and fire extinguisher. In the case of freight trucks, these are required to have a canvas cargo protector.
